NOTES:
1.  RICH TO THE RESCUE
Yesterday a report was received on some of the damage inflicted
by RICH during her marathon gunnery excercise when 734 rounds were
expended.  The report read in part:
"17 confirmed VC killed, one M60 mortar captured, 65 rounds
of 91mm and 81 rounds of 61mm ammunition destroyed.  The
artillery spotter credited RICH's gunfire with saving the
26th and 24th Vietnamese Popular Forces from being overrun".
What most people do not know is that five enemy are wounded for
every one killed.  Also, Viet Cong do not leave there dead behind
if they can help it.  Therefor probably more than 17 VC were killed
and many more wounded.
That isn't a bad track record for our first day on the gunline and
everyone should be quite proud of it.

2.  PAYDAY
All hands are cautioned to draw only as much of their pay as
needed.  Also, to keep what you draw locked up so that it won't
be stolen.

3.  RELIEVE THE WATCH
Some RICHMEN are taking too long to man their station when the full
NGFS team is called away.  The full NGFS team will not be called away
any sooner than necessary if we can man up quickly and be ready for
a call for fire within 10 minutes.
However, if the delays in manning up continue, the only alternative
will be to call the team away earlier than should be necessary.
Everyone will then have to stand easy on station while the slowpokes
take their time getting there.
In order to avoid wasting a lot of unnecessary time on station the
obvious solution is to be alert and man your station quickly when it
is called away.  Team up with a buddy in another section who can wake
you up if necessary.

4.  SWEEP/CLAMP DOWN
Field day went fairly well today, for the most part.  Unfortunately,
some of the berthing spaces aren't being kept clean enough.  The
reason for the sweep and clamp down scheduled in the POD at 0800
and 1300 is to keep the compartments habitable and clean.  No-one
likes to live in a mess, and if he does, there is no room for him
on board the RICH.
