NOTES:
1.  UNREP DAY

Our activity this morning after securing from General Quarters will
be devoted primarily to replenishment.  Once again let me remind you that
this takes the cooperation of all hands to get the job done as quickly
and painlessly as possible.  We are going to re-arm, refuel and take on
atores this morning from three different service force ships; so lets
pitch in and get it completed.

2.  COMBAT ACTION RIBBON
Last night the ship was taken under fire by coastal defense batteries
on the coast of North Vietnam.  This will undoubtedly qualify everyone on
board for the Combat Action Ribbon.  YN1 STANFIELD, our friendly yeoman
is presently researching the eligibility requirements and procedures for
obtaining this award.

3.  PERSONAL CLEANLINESS

It has become obvious since our departure, that the lovely girls of
Obangapo City are not the most hygienic in the world.  Their unsanitary
habit, coupled with a lack of soap and water on the part of some RICHMEN
has resulted in what is called balanitis.  This is not veneral disease,
but it does result in severe pain and inflammation of the penis and
surrounding area.  It is commonly associated with poor local genital
hygiene habits.  All hands are reminded, that even though you must take
a Navy 'shower' to conserve water, don't forget to wash, rinse and dry
your genital area thoroughly.

On the other hand however, there have been a dozen cases of bonafide
VD reported on board since Subic Bay and the number is increasing everyday.
VD can be easily cured if reported early.  So, if in doubt, contact the
friendly Chief Corpsman in Sickbay.  All consultations are kept in the
strictest privacy, of course.

FINALLY, FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATIONS IN BEHALF OF LT CALLEY - The three
parole officers who interviewed Lieutenant William Calley Monday are
reported to have submitted favorable recommendations on his behalf.  The
parole officers reportedly found that for the last year and a half he
has served "cruel and unusual punishment".  He is serving a 20 year
sentence fro his involvement in the deaths of 22 Vietnamese civilians at
My Lai.  The report of the parole officers was forwarded to the Commanding
Officer at Fort Benning where Calley is being detained.  The Court of
Military review is scheduled to hear arguments on the Calley appeal Monday.
Calley has filed a formal request to be at the hearings in Washington, and
his request is under consideration.

MISTAKEN BOMBING RAID - The Saigon Command reported Tuesday that the
casualty toll of Vietnamese civilians killed in a misguided bombing raid
is now 21.  The raid left more than 20 others wounded and destroyed 30
homes.  The US Command said two air force fighter bombers and four navy
attack planes participated in the raid south of DaNang.

JAPAN AIR LINES CRASH - Two Americans are reported among 16 survivors of
the crash of a Japan Air Lines jetliner in Moscow Tuesday.  But 60 others
aboard were killed.  The plane was bound from Tokyo.

UNITED NATIONS - Expected next week at the United Nations is a vote by the
Legal Committee of the General Assembly on Terrorism.  The issue has been
debated for nearly three weeks.  And 95 of the 132 UN members have partici-
pated in the discussion.

The US proposal to lower its share of the operating budget of the United
Nations was given an unexpected boost Tuesday by France.  The United States
is seeking to lower its share of financial support.

OLD BROTHELS - There's money to be found in old brothels, especially one
formerly known as Marguerite's in Charlottsville, Virginia.  As many as
100 people a day have been digging for money at the site of the building
that was demolished recently.  Wednesday, a crane operator uncovered $700,
and a 16 year old girl found a metal box under a tree.  The box contained
$8,000.  (Note from Editor - Maybe she can rebuild the fun house?)  The
Internal Revenue Service advises that any money found is taxable.

FOUND INNOCENT - Shelly Gilbert was found innocent of lewdness Tuesday for
removing her bathing suit on a Brooklyn, New York beach.  Criminal Court
Judge Robert Kriendler ruled that while Miss Gilbert had been nude on the
Mill Island Beach last August 19th, the prosecution failed to establish
that she did anything "in a lewd manner".  While acquitting Miss Gilbert
on the lewdness charge, the judge reserved his decision on another charge
against her - "exposure of a female".

MARIJUANA IN NEVADA - In Nevada a twin engine plane that authorities say
was loaded with marijuana crashed Tuesday near the community of Archlight.
The two men aboard were killed.

WASTE TREATMENT PLANTS - The Nixon Administration says it is releasing two
billion dollars for construction of municipal waste treatment plants during
this fiscal year.  The administration also says it plans to spend another
three billion dollars on waste treatment facilities during the fiscal year
beginning next July.
