Help For Laffey On Horizon?

Apparently when the Patriots Point Development Authority Board found out the cost to sink LAFFEY cost about the same as the needed repairs they opted to do the right thing and keep "The Ship That Wouldn't Die".  Cheers were no doubt heard throughout the land by destroyermen as well as other military vets.

In an email from Interim Executive Director Dick Trammel to USS Laffey Association President Sonny Walker, Mr. Trammel explained the cost comparison to prepare to sink LAFFEY as a memorial reef some 60 miles out in the Atlantic versus making the ship once again a viable museum ship at Patriots Point.

While it's not a "done deal", it seems with the Board's endorsement it will be a matter of time to get everything in place.  Mr. Trammel indicated that LAFFEY is expected to make the trip to drydock in mid-August with repairs expected to take 120-180 days.

For many of us, it's nice to breath again.
