For Those Of Us...

For those of us who never were educated in the operation of a naval gun, this animation goes a long way in explaining the basics.  Perhaps some experienced Gunners Mate will submit a more detailed explanation.  How about it, GMs?

Ask and ye shall receive.  Chuck Weber writes "As a former Chief Gunner’s Mate, please allow me to explain the “gun” animation on the website. It pertains only to “bag” type ammunition, as was used on the big 16 inch guns of battleship fame, and some very old 12 inch guns. It does not describe the process for loading and shooting the type of guns installed on RICH. They were 5inch-38 caliber guns using semi-fixed type ammunition consisting of one projectile and one brass powder casing per load. It was the latter that came clanging out on the deck after each round was fired."

(Noticeably absent is the pile of brass that littered the deck after a shoot.)
