Sick Bay Report

21 JUNE 03 UPDATE

Shipmates, I am saddened to report to you that Walt’s condition is in serious decline. He has  lost about 20-25 lbs since I last saw him. Last week the doctors gave him 2-3 weeks to live. However, Walt has since decided to stop dialysis treatments, which will probably cause coma  and then death within a week to ten days.

I have been a Veterans Service Officer in both the Legion and VFW for over 25 years.  I have offered to assist Louise with matters both before and after Walt’s demise and she has  accepted.  It appears now that Walt’s Legion Post will provide a military honors ceremony.  He  is to be cremated and his cremains will be committed to the deep by the first available USN ship available.

I’ll keep you informed as the situation progresses.

Chuck

03 MAY 03 UPDATE
Shipmates:   Just a note to let you know that Marie and I visited Walt Becker in the nursing home.  We found him to be reasonably alert and was able to converse with us.  Walt read the card everyone signed and spent several minutes examining the signatures.   Although the situation is grave, we pray there is still hope.  Louise is coping and doing a good job, considering the condition of our shipmate.  Cards would be a welcome and pleasant diversion.

We've learned that former association Treasurer Walt Becker is quite ill and hospitalized.  Walt is receiving daily dialysis and other treatment.

Please keep Walt and wife Louise in your thoughts and prayers as we wish for his speedy recovery.

SHIPMATES-- From the great procrastinator
I received a great moral booster in the form of a card signed by those at the reunion.  This was greatly appreciated, and cherished.

I thank all for the thoughts and for good memories.

Raymond Parsons  RMC USN RETARDED.

(keep smiling)
